Discounts - "Required Products" and Product Association

Discounts by Product Categories, Product Types, and Select Products

In the Discount setup, #4 Basis Section there is the ability to associate Product Types, Product Categories, and/or specific Products to which the discount will apply. Like a funnel, these go from most broad to more specific. This article will explain each of those and how to set them up.

Product Types

In the Administrative Control Panel (ACP) menu, under the Products tab is Product Types. This should be a fairly limited list that segments your products into the broadest terms. Most wineries will only have Wine and Merchandise, while others may have a few more.

In the discount setup, when Select Product Types is chosen a drop down of the types will appear and one or more types can be chosen.

This broad category is useful when a whole type of product is discounted but others are not.

Product Categories

In the Administrative Control Panel (ACP) menu, under the Products tab is Product Categories.

For more details on Product Categories see this article.

In the discount setup, when Select Product Categories is chosen a drop down of the types will appear and one or more categories can be chosen.

This is useful for segmenting categories to only Library Wines, or Large Formats for discounts.

Select Products

You can select specific products to be discounted. There are a few steps involved for setup:

  1. Click the Select Products button. This will cause a check box to appear >
  2. Check the Require product association box. Complete section 5 and save the discount.

  1. Got to Products and open the Product Detail for the product(s) you wish the discount to apply.
    1. Under the Discount tab select the discount from the drop-down menu.
    2. Click Add AND Save.

  1. In the discount setup the product will be listed.

Several product can be associated with a discount. They can be added and removed as desired.

To remove a product from a discount, remove it frm the Product Detail.

TEST and Test again: We cannot stress enough that testing is key to the success of discounts.

Test with different customer types in both the POS and on your web site.

Reach out to Support if you are not getting the results you expect and need assistance

(Kindly include discount name and the desired results).

NOTE: The system will select the Primary discount that offers the customer the greatest/highest discount and then applies supplemental discounts. If during testing an errors occurs, looking for conflicting discounts is a good place to troubleshoot.

BEST PRACTICE: Once a discount is no longer in use or valid, disable/inactivate it.

Many active discounts can cause errors as the platform will search

for the BEST Primary discount to apply.
