Open / Close POS Register (Terminal)

A few notes about POS Terminals:

  1. There are 2 types of POS terminals:
    1. Virtual: Desktop access to the POS, usually for entering orders in a "back of the house" setting.
    2. Registered: Attached to an credit card reader and often a receipt printer, used for tasting room sales. Card reader devices (EMV) will ONLY function when connected to registered terminals.
  2. Registered terminals have specific settings and requirements for the card reader and printer functionality. See this article for more details.
  3. A computer designated as a registered terminal will remain registered unless the cookies are cleared either by an update or manually clearing the browser history, or other action that clears the cookies. This article describes how to release and re-register a terminal.

Opening the Register (Terminal)

At the beginning of each day Registered Terminals should be counted in by entering the total dollars in the register drawer.

Note: You may want to create a hard copy of the cash-in count, or print the page after counting and before clicking Open.

  1. From the Administrative Control Panel (ACP) menu, select POS > Open POS.

    2. Enter the cash amounts > click Open Terminal. Your terminal will be open and ready to process orders.

Notice in the top right of the POS web view there is Registered Terminal ID:

Closing the Register (Terminal)

  1. From the Administrative Control Panel (ACP), select POS > Reports > X Report.

Note: This report type is only an option from a registered terminal.

Run an X report when you want a quick snapshot of your cash drawer balance. An X Report is cumulative, and never resets. So if you only run X Reports the data will build every day.

See this article for more details on POS Reports.

  2. From the POS, click Close Terminal. This will bring up the window to count out the register, and make any notes if necessary.

  3. After entering the closing count amounts click Close Terminal

  4. From the Administrative Control Panel (ACP), select POS > Reports > Z Report.

Note: This report type is only an option from a registered terminal.

Run a Z report when you want a final balance of your cash drawer. The Z Report resets your cash drawer to $0.00

Your register is now closed and ready to reopen the day or shift.
